In an automated pigging system, the equipment is paired with an automated control system (supporting manual operation) for conducting automated operations. The system uses pressure sensors to monitor pipeline pressure in real-time, precisely controlling valve openings and the movement of pigs (cleaning tools) within the pipeline. The pigging system can collaborate with other plant systems, enabling integration and full-process control, all monitored centrally by the DCS system. This ensures automation, safety, and efficiency during pigging operations.

Automated Pigging Control Systems
A pigging control system is an automated system used to manage and control pipeline cleaning operations. It ensures the efficient and safe operation of pigs (cleaning tools) for tasks such as cleaning, inspection, isolation, or medium transport. The primary goal of this system is to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and ensure the safety of operators.
VP Pigging Control System
- Automated Operation: Modern pigging control systems use specially designed launch and receiving stations to automate feeding, launching, receiving, and cleaning. This improves production efficiency, processing speed, and eliminates the cumbersome manual operations.
- Safety Assurance: The pre-set operational steps and self-checking functions enhance safety, reducing risks from human error. In pressurized pipelines, manual operations pose significant safety hazards, while the automated control system mitigates these risks effectively.
- Remote Control & Support: The VP control center is equipped with a complete DCS control system (both hardware and software), which is thoroughly tested before shipment. Additionally, VP offers remote control services and technical support to ensure prompt assistance during operation.

Operating Modes
The pigging distributed control system offers two mutually exclusive operating modes:
- Central Control Room Master Control: The central control room serves as the main control hub, responsible for managing and monitoring the entire pigging operation. Real-time feedback from sensors and monitoring devices on-site allows operators in the control room to manage pigging tasks with precision.
- On-Site Control: In special circumstances, the system can switch to on-site control mode. In this mode, on-site personnel can operate the pigging equipment directly, while the central control room monitors the operations to ensure they meet safety standards.
Control Authority Management
The system uses interlocking protocols to ensure that only one control authority is granted at a time. This mechanism effectively prevents signal conflicts and safety risks caused by dual control operations, ensuring smooth pigging operations.

VP’s automated pigging distributed control system offers enhanced efficiency and safety for industrial pigging operations. It replaces the outdated, manual processes with advanced control technology, improving the efficiency and reliability of the entire pigging operation.
